Fleeting
Water-Soluble Wax Pastel on Watercolor Paper, 7″x10″
Life is fleeting.
As each individual takes a new breath, time continues to ripple and flow throughout. Never lapsing, never wavering, it presses on with continuous momentum, bending and moving about us.
New life is continuously born, seeds sprouting from beneath the earth, mothers welcoming newborns into the world, and creations summoned into existence, but life is also constantly brought to an end. This intertwining of life and death, young and old, generation to generation blends beautifully amongst itself, meshing, weaving, tangling upon the canvas of life.
Like a wavering fire licking at the twilight sky above, moments dance and flick about. For a short period, they burst from the hearth casting an enlightening glow and offering an embrace of comfort and warmth. These moments bathe over others and consume them with their beauty and light, but in an instant, the flames transform from strong and roaring to smaller slivers of themselves, slinking upward as they disappear. Before vanishing completely, they emit an array of embers, the final reminder of their existence and the last glimpse of their light. These moments fulfilled their short lives, only to remain in memories.
Although we may wish to pause and reflect upon an existing moment, that moment is forever changing. Colors blend together, lives meld into one another, and everything fades away, eventually. Only for a moment can we appreciate the brief glimpses of artistry bestowed upon us. Only for a moment can we connect with others who have stumbled upon our journeys in life. Only for a moment can we witness life taking place.
