Charcoal Companions

Animals are those filled with life, having breath, soul, and a living being. Just staring within an animal’s eyes, one is overcome with a sense of understanding and empathy. Though they may not verbally communicate with us, animals are able to express and relate through their powerful expressions. Their eyes are as deep as the world’s oceans, their fur as lush as the Earth’s grasses. People have a special connection with animals, even finding companionship with particular individuals.

These portraits are crafted to embody unique animal individuals that have had a lasting impression in this world. The compositions are kept simple in order to highlight and honor each being, highlighting their unique features. To represent these animals’ natural place in this world, these portraits are crafted from charcoal pigments, pulled straight from the Earth. Each dust particle gives the composition a soft presence and embodies the animal in warm, comforting tones. Most importantly, the animal’s telling eyes become the focal point of each portrait, allowing the pet to share its personal story.
