I glanced over my shoulder to stare at my people. Their faces were filled with astonishment as their jaws dropped and their eyes widened. I noticed young children pull on their mothers’ clothing and point past me. Tears of joy began to fall from tired eyes as happiness spread over us. As we entered the lost city, a feeling of relief released the burden from my shoulders. I turned my head to join my people staring in awe at the wondrous sight before us. I smiled as I thought of the angel that had led us here. He was right! He was right! We were here! Here at last! Glancing up to the bright sky overhead, I quietly whispered, “Thank you. Thank you so very much.”

Oh, it was a sight to see!

I have created a new species of Qurk that will be in my following stories. This new species is called a Zanthyr and have come to Our World with the other Qurks. After seeing the destruction and sorrow brought to our planet, they have joined together in an alliance against the remaining Qurks. Basically, they are on our side and are helping us. Feel free to create your own designs with this alien species and use them in your own stories.

"Dragonflight" by Anne McCaffrey

“Dragonflight” by Anne McCaffrey

I am so proud of myself this week from January 7 to January 13, 2007 for I have returned to my usual, large amount of writing and have another high word count to display.

It feels good to say that I have written 7,368 words on Magic Pens and 1,114 words off. This adds up to be a total of 8,482 words.

I have surprisingly been keeping up with my reading just as well. I have read 9 chapters, (131 pages,) in DragonFlight by Anne McCaffrey and have read the short story, Full Circle. I hope to keep up these stats this week!

Shep wandered around the city aimlessly as he felt that his very heart had been violently ripped from him. As his wounds slowly healed and scabbed over, they brought him great pain as he traveled. Growling and occasionally yelping, he despised the world around him.

Two teenagers walked into the room where Shep was now lying on the floor. One carried a leash while the other held a muzzle in his gloved hand. One looked to the other with a confused look on his face. “Is he dead?” he asked with a bit of fear reflecting from his eyes.

There was a sweet giggle as Shep rested on the cold floor. He could hear it in the back of his mind as his sight of the world faded away. It was a child’s laugh, a young girl’s laugh. He recognized it all too well. It was Lilly. There was a splash of pink across the dark backdrop of his mind as Lilly came into view. He could see her peacefully running through the park beside him with the beautiful budding spring trees glowing with joy. Her bright face was red, her eyes tightly closed, and a smile spread from ear to ear. She ran with her dog, laughing with her soft, bubbly laugh.

Shep recognized this dream. It was a memory, a memory from his past. A memory…of what his life used to be like. Happiness seemed so far from reach now.

“How did it go?”

“Well the dog is dead.”

“Dead? Oh, you mean the other dog.”

“Yes, Shep is fine. A little scratched, but fine.”

“So, what happened?”

“I just let the dog in, and Shep went straight for his neck. There was a bit of fighting, but with his sheer power he had no trouble bringing it down. He killed the dog just as we hoped.”

“Wow, this might have worked better than we were expecting.”

“Yes, a little too well.”

“What is wrong?”

“Well after he killed the dog, he went straight for me. He has no respect for us and he doesn’t fear us.”

“That could be a problem, but we can work it out. Just a minor…complication.”

I was sitting in a booth at a McDonalds when it all began. A blank expression rested on my dull face showing my obvious boredom. I occasionally glanced to my left to peer through the reflective window into the play area. A young child was standing on the used cushion of the booth next to mine with the barrier of the wall between us. He was busy knocking his new toy on the glass by my head and smiling with a wide grin that lit up his face.

I checked the clock hanging on the wall. As 5:30pm stared back at me, I thought to myself. ‘Just about thirty-five minutes or so until I have to leave.’ I wasn’t exactly looking forward to playing in the pep band in the basketball game at my high school. I had to be there around 6:30pm, but I always felt comfort in arriving a little early. I was bored as I waited there in the small seat.

Staring down at the empty McNugget box that rested on the table before me, I took a sip of my Coke. The trash that lied in waiting on my tray was beginning to disturb me. Empty barbeque sauce packets filled the empty french fry cartridge, smothering the insides with the little sauce that had been marooned. A few unused napkins had been discarded onto the tray along with the receipt of my order, now covered in the brown goo.

Then, I saw the ketchup…

“That is right. Keep coming. Come to Petra. Bring your people. Take them with you. Bring them. Bring them to Petra. Keep coming. You are almost there. Do not lose faith. Do not lose hope. Bring them. Bring your people to Petra.” The angels voice softly faded away into the depths of my dream as he smiled his sweet, embracing smile and radiated a golden glow that brought joy and tranquility to my soul. The angel waved his arm, bathed in robes of white, as my dream began to ripple like the precious waters of the oasis. Once again my eyes rested on the intricate designs of the rocky temples hidden within the deep valley. The protective, stone buildings that protruded from the canyon walls lay dormant, waiting within their lost location. Waiting with great patience…

Suddenly, my dream was abruptly disturbed as I awakened with deep fear. I had heard a sound. I glanced around at my people huddled together for warmth as they slept through the bitter, desert night. Many were awake as they searched the skies overhead. The same look of solicitude was expressed on their faces, as on mine. They had heard the sound too.

It was noon, and the heat was stifling. As I pulled my kaffiyeh around my head to shield myself from the sun’s rays, I glanced over my shoulder. My people were with me. They were following me to Petra, and they trusted me as their leader. I felt a sense of pride, as if I was needed, as I rode on in the lead. My father rode alongside me with his chin held high. I was bringing great honor to the family.

For some reason, for the last three or four word counts, they just haven’t been as high as they normally are. I just haven’t been…writing as much or something. I know that I have been drawing a lot more. I have been working on my websites a lot more often also.

Well anyway, this week from December 31st, 2006 to January 6th, 2007, I have written 1,858 words on Magic Pens and 780 words off.

This comes to a total of 2,638 words written.

I have finished reading the last 2 chapters of The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge. I also read The Fifty-First Dragon by Heywood Broun and The Most Dangerous Game written by Richard Connel. This along with the first 4 chapters of DragonFlight by Anne McCaffrey comes out to be an okay reading total for me.
